Seems the teachers didn't like the "advice", &
with a little double talk & statutory relief call into question the ETHICS
CODE. Hmm. The judge speaks of "rule making" when the ETHICS CODE is
already in effect. All this time and public money to decide, in my opinion,
teachers can continue to act as tour/travel agents and accept
"benefits" from those businesses. This smoke screen would cause me to
dig further.
What was the itinerary?
What are the criteria for inclusion on these trips?
What did they do?
Where did they stay?
Where did they go?
Where did they eat?
How much did it cost?
What did they learn?
What
"benefits" were the teachers promised/given?
Etc., etc., etc.
So much of this should have been handled at the DOE, seems
to me. Some type of plan should have been approved at DOE level before contracting
with travel/tour companies, promises of "benefits" and
"promotion" to students. Don't they have an ETHICS officer? If so,
are they as light-weight as others, that on the whim of governors, mayors or
judges, can be pushed around or pushed out? Further, if I were a parent, I'd be
in deep disagreement with those that would twist my concern about my child's
education into a threat against those that would ensure ethics among teachers.
I would be insulted by those that would, with glib speech, threaten them with
my, or the public’s ire in return for having unethical behavior examined or
checked.
